Hal Sutton is an American professional golfer and former captain of the 2004 American Ryder Cup Team. Sutton began his competitive golf career at the Centenary College of Louisiana. In 1980, he was named College Player of the Year. In 1983, Hal became known as one of the PGA Tour's top young stars by winning the PGA Championship.
His career then fell into a drought. He went from 1986 to 1995 without a PGA Tour victory and nearly lost his tour card only to use his one-time exemption for being in the top 50 of the all-time PGA Tour career money list. After using his exemption, Sutton made a strong comeback.
In 2001, Sutton had one of his best years, making the cut in 22 of 26 events with one victory and a season winnings total of $1.7 million. He was named non-playing captain of the USA's Ryder Cup team for 2004. In 2008, Hal will become eligible to play the Champions Tour.
