Garry Shandling first made a name for himself as a highly praised writer for the 1970's classics "Sanford and Son" and "Welcome Back, Kotter."Gary made his stand-up comedy debut in 1975, at "The Comedy Store" in Los Angeles.His stand-up caught the attention of Joan Rivers, who introduced him to Johnny Carson.In 1981, Gary Shandling made his first appearance on "The Tonight Show ", and would later on frequently serve as the show's guest host.
Shandling stared and executive produced in the CableACE Award-winning series "It's Garry Shandling's Show." In addition, Gary hosted the 1990 and 1991 Grammy Awards.Gary Shandling stared in HBO's first series "The Larry Sanders Show."Previously, Shandling had been on HBO's "Comic Relief III," "HBO Comedy Hour: Garry Shandling: Stand-Up" and "Comic Relief V." Shindling appeared in the movie "The Night We Never Met" and recently contributed his voice to the animated film "Over the Hedge."
