Marshall Bruce Mathers is a rapper best known for his stage name, Eminem.
He is one of the most popular and controversial rappers of today, as well as a Grammy and Oscar winner. He has won 9 Grammy awards during his career and has been nominated a total of 21 times.
Eminem is known for his ability to change his vocal pace and style multiple times within a single song without losing the beat. Many have praised him for his alliteration and assonance skills. In May of 2000, The Marshall Mathers LP was released, selling two million copies in no time. The album's first single, The Real Slim Shady, was a huge hit. In November of 2002, Mathers made his acting debut in Hollywood through his autobiographical film, 8 Mile. Several new songs were recorded for the soundtrack. "Lose Yourself" being one of them, won an Academy Award for Best Song. Mathers' voice may be heard on Crank Yankers as well as on The Slim Shady Show, a web cartoon.
Eminem succeeded in multi-platinum record sales and was granted his own record label by Dr. Dre, a sub-label of Aftermath Entertainment. He has also signed a deal with Sirius Satellite Radio in order to program Shade 45, a rap oriented station. Mathers also owns a clothing line, "Shady Ltd." and serves as an active producer of rap records.
