Dixie Carter is best known for her portrayal of "Julia Sugarbaker" in the Designing Women series that ran for several years on CBS. She has also starred in the series Filthy Rich, On Our Own, Diff'rent Strokes and Out of the Blue.Other TV credits include, The Killing of Randy Webster, and Dazzle and The Gambler V.
In 1963, Carter made her off-Broadway debut in a production of The Winter's Tale. She earned a Theater World Award for her appearance in Jesse and the Bandit Queen. She was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for her appearance in Fathers and Sons. She also appeared in Taken in Marriage and A Coupl'a White Chicks Sitting Around Talking among others.
Aside from her acting, she has produced two fitness videos; "Dixie Carter's Un-Workout"and "Yoga for You." She has authored Trying To Get to Heaven, which she also recorded for Books on Tape along with her recording of two other books, Scarlett and A Southern Belle Primer.
