David Stremme officially began his racing career in 1993 at age 15.
In 2000, Stremme moved to the ASA Series, that's when things began to happen. He finished the season fourth in the standings and earned the Pat Schaurer Memorial Rookie of the Year Award.
Stremme's ASA success grabbed the attention of Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. He was brought to Lakeland International Speedway to test alongside of future CGRFS teammates Jamie McMurray and Casey Mears. Stremme also became the first driver in the team's driver development program.
In 2003, Stremme split seat time in the NASCAR Busch Series with McMurray in the No. 1 car. In only 16 starts, Stremme won the NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year title, becoming the first driver to win the title without competing full time in the series.
In June of 2005, CGRFS announced that Stremme would be the new driver of the No. 40 car in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.
