David Robinson, considered one of the greatest to ever play in the National Basketball Association (NBA), was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs upon graduation from the Naval Academy, where he won college basketball's two most prestigious player awards, the Naismith and Wooden Awards.
Robinson joined the Spurs for the 1989-1990 and he helped the team make the playoffs. He was nicknamed "The Admiral" for his service as an officer in the Navy.Robinson was honored as the NBA rookie of the year and SEGA immediately produced a video game starring Robinson called "David Robinson's Supreme Court".He also continued to serve as a reservist in the Navy and was regularly featured in recruiting materials.
In 1992 Robinson won the gold medal in Barcelona on the US Olympic Dream Team.He went on to win the NBA's MVP trophy in 1995.In 1996 he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History and in 1998 he was inducted the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame.
1999 was the year David Robinson, alongside Tim Duncan, won his first NBA Championship.After the Spurs won their 2003 NBA championship, Robinson retired. The "Twin Towers," he and Tim Duncan, shared Sports Illustrated magazine's 2003 Sportsmen of the Year award.
Robison is one of only a small group of players to have scored over 20,000 career points in the NBA, and one of only four players to have recorded a quadruple-double.
David Robinson is a born-again Christian and also an amateur musician. David Robinson is now on staff at the Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, where Max Lucado is the pulpit minister.
