Dara Torres broke her first world record in the 50-meter freestyle in 1982, and is now the American record holder in that event.
In addition to her swimming accomplishments, Torres is a successful television commentator and print model. She was the NBC-TV correspondent for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Torres is currently a feature reporter for "PGA Tour Sunday" on USA Network and a freelance host for E! Television.
Her television background includes time spent as the feature correspondent for "Good Morning America." She is the host and spokesperson for a series of best-selling workout videos, and is the first athlete to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.
Torres is also committed to raising awareness about CRC and the critical role of family, friends and caregivers in helping patients cope with the disease. Torres is the official spokesperson for Roots of Support in CRC, which was launched in May 2004 by the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA). The program is designed to encourage CRC patients and their loved ones to take an active role in building a network of support.
