Dale Tallon became the eighth general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks on June 21, 2005. Tallon was promoted from assistant general manager.
Tallon was also the Blackhawks' director of player personnel from 1998 to 2002. He was also a member of Chicago's broadcast team for16 seasons as an analyst.
Tallon's first season as the Blackhawks' General Manager was dissapointing The team did not live up to expectations, partly due to injuries. Chicago finished the year with 26 wins, 43 losses, and 13 overtime losses, for 65 points. The Blackhawks ended up 14th in the 15-team Western Conference, and with the third least points in the NHL.
Tallon was a first-round selection of the Vancouver Canucks and the second player chosen overall in the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft. As a rookie, Tallon scored 14 goals and tallied 42 assists in 1970-71. Dale Tallon scored 17 goals for a career high playing for Vancouver in 1971-72.
Tallon was selected to the 1971 and 1972 NHL All-Star teams.
On May 14, 1973, Tallon was traded to the Chicago Blackhwaks. Tallon's best season in Chicago was in 1975-76, recording a career-high 47 assists and scoring 15 goals. Tallon scored 44 goals and added 112 assists in his five seasons with Chicago.
In 1978, Tallon was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a second-round draft choice in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. Tallon scored 10 goals with 33 assists in his 2 seasons with the Penguins..
In 10 seasons, Tallon totaled 98 goals and had 238 assists for 336 points in 642 games played.
After the 1979-1980 season, Dale Tallon retired and went to work for Chicago as a broadcaster.
