This was the culmination of a career that began in 1989 when singer Adam Duritz was introduced to David Bryson by musician David Immergluck. They called themselves Counting Crows after an English Divination Rhyme. Their latest album "Films About Ghosts" was released in November 2004.
The Counting Crows burst onto the music scene in a fashion unlike any other band. They went straight from playing small venues with mostly locals in San Francisco into performing at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony (filling in for Van Morrison).
Their first album, "August and Everything After" was fresh out of the studio and they were just getting started. But the Hall of Fame performance, along with the upbeat song, "Mr. Jones", shot them to the top.
They admit their aspirations weren't set high, and vocalist Adam Duritz admits he's not so driven. "I can write songs and I can sing - and it gives me a reason to be here", he says. That seems to be the reason his bandmates continue to play as well. They were all acquaintances on the San Francisco music scene, and each had nearly given up playing and gone in different directions before Duritz and David Bryson, guitars and vocals, pulled them all together.
After their 1994 debut album, the Counting Crows released "Recovering the Satellites" in 1996, "Across a Wire - Live in New York" in 1998 and "This Desert Life" in 1999.
Passionate and often melancholy lyris mixed with a late 60's/early 70's sound sets the Counting Crows' music apart from other bands and produces hits like "Long December", "Round Here", and "Hanging Around".
