  Chris Isaak
Category : Entertainers and Musicians, Entertainment, Actors

In brief :
Chris Isaak, the ever vital singer/musician/actor/TV star, employed a unigue mehtod of tunecrafting when he began writing songs that would become the startlingly fresh Reprise recording "Always Got Tonight".

"I literally wrote some of these songs in the sand", he says. His "castaway" mehtod took place after playing some concert dates in Hawaii. For a week, he cut himself off from his hectic lifestyle. He checked himself into an isolated, old, out-of-business beach-side hotel along the island's coast where he was alone with his thoughts and emotions - no phones, no distractions. "It was an unusual way to work, for sure. I'd start in the morning at one end of the beach and I'd etch the words with a stick as I walked along the water's edge over the course of the day. Writing in isolation by the water was really good for the soul, and it was rejuvenating."

It was also the catalyst for what is perhaps the strongest recording of Isaak's long and illustriou career. "Always Got Tonight" showed the artist adding a distinctly modern feel to the classic pop and rock sounds that have elevated him to the highest plateau of respect among artists.

Chris was born June 26, 1956 in Stockton, California. He began performing after he graduated from college, forming the rockabilly band "Silvertone". The group, which featured guitarist James Calvin Wilsey, bassist Rowland Salley and drummer Kenny Dale Johnson, would become the singer/guitarist's permanent supporting band.

In 1984, he began his recording career when he signed a contract to Warner Brothers Records for his first album, "Silvertone". His contract was renewed in 1988 when Warner Brothers moved him to their Reprise Records label.

His best known song is likely "Wicked Game". Though released in 1989 on the album "Heart Shaped World", an instrumental version of the song was later featured in the David Lynch film "Wild at Heart" and also years later in the 2000 film, "The Family Man".

In 1999, Isaaks's "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing" was featured in Stanley Kubrick's final film, "Eyes Wide Shut", starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

In 200l, Chris starred in his own television show, "The Chris Isaak Show". It aired from March 2001 to March 2004 in the US on the cable television network "Showtime".

In 2004, he recorded his first seasonal album, "Chris Isaak Christmas" which featured five new Yuletide tunes along with a batch of holiday favorites.

Chris has also appeared in numerous films. He starred with Keanu Reeves and Bridget Fonda in the 1993 Bernardo Bertolucci-directed "Little Buddha". Other motion pictures include "Married to the Mob", (1988), "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991), "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" (1992), "That Thing You Do! (1996), and "A Dirty Shame" (2004). He also guest starred on the Superbowl Sunday (1996) edition of the television sitcom "Friends" and on the HBO miniseries, "From Earth to the Moon" (HBO).
