Chip Reese is considered one of the best seven card stud poker players in the world. Reese's interest in cards began when he suffered from rheumatic fever during his elementary years, and had to stay home for nearly a year. It was at this time that his mother taught him how to play several card games.
Reese went on to attend Dartmouth College where he had tremendous success in poker games against students and some of his professors. Chip entered his first tournament in Las Vegas where he won $40,000. His success was so great during his first trip to Las Vegas that he decided not even to return home.
Chip went on to write the seven-card stud section for Doyle Brunson's Super System, the best-selling poker book of all time. In it, Brunson describes Reese as "one of the two finest young ... poker players in the world" and the best seven-card stud player he had ever played. In 1978, Chip won the $1000 Seven Card Stud Split event at the World Series of Poker and in 1982 won the $5000 Seven Card Stud tournament.
He has been named in various gamblers' magazines as the best all-around gambler in the world. Not only does Chip play poker but also gin and backgammon. In 1991, he became the youngest living player to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.Today, Chip holds on to three World Series of Poker bracelets.
