Carlos' ability to reach a diverse audience by pointing out society's hypocrisies is the ultimate goal for the observational comedian, which makes him one of the best comedians of the modern era.
Carlos was studying electrical engineering at Cal State Los Angeles and holding down a full-time job at Farmers' Insurance when he took the stage on amateur night at the Laugh Factory. This was his start to comedy.
In November 1997, Mencia was selected to host "Funny is Funny!" an innovative, weekly series spotlighting the nation's best Latino comedians in English. The initial, thirteen-week run became an immediate hit, and cable's fastest-growing network, Galavision, doubled its initial order.
Additional TV credits include hosting HBO's series, Loco Slam, a critically-lauded performance on Comic Relief VI, repeat spots on Comedy Showcase as well as two solo HBO Comedy Half Hours. He was honored with a CableACE award nomination ("Best Stand-Up Comedy Special") for the second time.
In 2005, Carlos was granted his own half-hour comedy show called "Mind of Mencia" and currently is on it's second successful season. It averages about 1.5 million total viewers.
Carlos' latest project is a multi-part recording deal with Warner/Electra/Asylum's sub-label, Parallel Records, which has been put on the fast-track. Currently in post-production, WEA, the music industry's largest label, will simultaneously release an English and Spanish version of Mencia's debut CD, Just Laughs, this summer.
