Born in the Bronx, Carl Reiner enrolled in drama school for eight months before landing a part as a second tenor in an updated version of "The Merry Widow."
He trained as a radio operator in the Air Force during World War II and then was sent to Georgetown University to study French to become an interpreter. He subsequently worked as a teletype operator in the Signal Corps and later as a comedian and actor in theSpecial Services Entertainment Unit while touring the Pacific.
Carl Reiner was the creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show, which became one of the most famous sitcoms in television history. While The Dick Van Dyke Show was soaring popular heights Reiner started writing and directing feature films.
Reiner has published numerous books, as well as receiving numerous awards. In 1999, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
