Buddy Rice, who was an infield prospect at Shadow Mountain High School, became interested in racing because his dad, Bud Rice, built and raced drag racing cars. When it was time to decide between baseball and racing, the younger Rice chose racing. That decision paid off when Rice won his first IndyCar Series race, the 88th Indianapolis 500, in 2004.
Away from the track, Rice's life is also about cars. A hot-rod enthusiast, Buddy owns several classic cars, including a 1949 Mercury, a full-sized customized Chevrolet truck and a 1967 Chevy 2 Nova Hot Rod.
