Buddy Lazier, whose father Bob was a two-time Indianapolis 500 starter, was a national-level ski racer from 1972-87 in slalom and downhill events and was considered an Olympic hopeful. However, Lazier also competed in motocross and karting and chose racing as his preferred sport. He eventually chased success at Indianapolis. Buddy's dream was realized when he won the 500-Mile Race in 1996, weeks after suffering a serious back injury. In 85 IndyCar races, Lazier has earned eight wins, six runner-up finishes and accumulated 26 top-five finishes. He has been running at the end in 60 of these events. In Buddy's championship year, he had seven top-seven results.
