Harry Peter "Bud" Grant was a legendary head coach in both the Canadian Football League and the National Football League.
Bud Grant attended the University of Minnesota and starred in three sports for the Golden Gophers(football, basketball, and baseball).
In1949, he first played in the NBA for the Minneapolis Lakers.He averaged 2.6 ppg in his only two seasons.
In 1950,Grant was a first round selection of the Philadelphia Eagles. In his second year with the Eagles, Grant ranked second in the NFL for yards receiving with 997 and scored seven touchdowns.
After a stint playing with the Winnepeg Blue Bombers of the CFL, Grant was made head coach of the Blue Bombers in 1956. He coach the Blue Bombers until 1966. As head coach, he led Winnepeg to six Grey Cup appearances, winning four times.
In 1967, Grant became the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. It took him only two years to lead the team to a divisional championship. In 1969, his Vikings lost the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Vikings would get to 3 more Super Bowls under Grant's leadership and lost each one. He was the first man to coach in four Super Bowls. Grant retired after the 1983 season. He came back to coach the Vikings in 1985 and then retired for good.
Bud Grant was elected to both the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
