After his U.S. Army service, Bud Collins decided to attend BostonUniversity graduate school. He later, joined the Boston Herald as a sportswriter. In 1963, he moved to the "Boston Globe" and also began to cover tennis for the Boston PBS outlet, WGBH.
From 1968-72, Collins worked for CBS covering the U.S. Open Tennis Championships. In 1972, he joined NBC as a tennis broadcaster, a position he holds currently.
Collins has written three books: "The Education of a Tennis Player" (with Rod Laver, 1971), "Evonne! On the Move" (with Evonne Goolagong, 1974) a memoir, "My Life With the Pros" (1989) and three editions of the tennis encyclopedia.
Collins was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1994.
