Billy Donovan is the head coach of the University of Florida men's basketball team. Billy began his basketball career at St. Agnes High School and then went on to play basketball for Providence College.
Donovan had a brief career in the NBA with the New York Knicks. After he decided playing basketball wasn't going to work out, Donovan went to work on Wall Street with an investment firm. He then later went to be an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky under Rick Pitino. After his success at Kentucky, he landed a head coaching job at Marshall University. In 1996, Donovan took the head coaching job at the University of Florida.
Under Donovan, the Florida Gators have made the NCAA tournament in six straight seasons. Most recently in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, Donovan led his Gators to the National Championship game. It was there that Donovan won his first National Championship by defeating UCLA.
Donovan is one of only six men to reach the Final Four as both a player and a head coach; he's one of only three to play in the Final Four and win the national championship as a coach. He is the only active male coach in this club, joined by current Baylor women's coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson.
