Moyers has examined the failings of constitutional democracy with his “Essay on Watergate” in 1974 and exposed governmental illegalities and cover-up during the Iran Contra scandal. Moyers has looked at issues of race, class and gender, at the power media images held for a nation of "consumers," not citizens, and explored virtually every aspect of American political, economic and social life in his documentaries.
Moyers has been very influential with his World of Ideas series on PBS, where he used his soft, probing style to converse with a remarkable range of modern intellectuals. With this series, Moyers brought what he called the "conversation of democracy" to television. He has interviewed such noted scholars as Joseph Campbell, Noam Chomsky, Chinua Achebe, Carlos Fuentes, Toni Morrison, Mortimer Adler and many more.
