Bill Cowher is the head coach in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cowher began his football career at North Carolina State University where he was a starting linebacker, team captain, and team MVP in his senior season. In 1979 he graduated with an education degree.
He began his playing career in the NFL when he signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles for one season. He would go on to play for the Cleveland Browns for three seasons before returning back to the Eagles for his final two seasons in the NFL.
Cowher began his coaching career in 1985 with the Cleveland Browns as their special teams coach. He would then become their secondary coach before moving on to the Kansas City Chiefs as defensive coordinator.
On January 21, 1992 Cowher became the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is only the second coach in NFL history to lead his team to the playoffs in each of his first six seasons as head coach. In his 14 seasons, the Steelers have captured eight division titles, earned ten postseason playoff berths, advanced to six AFC Championship games and made two Super Bowl appearances. On February 5th, 2006, Cowher earned his first Super Bowl ring with a win over the Seattle Seahawks.
Today, Bill lives with his wife and three daughters in Pittsburgh.
