Ashton Lewis Jr. is a race care driver that has driven in the NASCAR Busch Series ranks.
The elder of two brothers, Lewis got a late start on his racing career, but he has capitalized on his opportunities to make up for lost time. Lewis will be joined at Team Rensi by Regan Smith in 2006 and the organization will look to place both of its drivers in the top 10 when the season concludes at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Following a one-year stint racing go-karts, an 18-year-old Lewis got the opportunity to race Formula Fords in the Skip Barber Midwest Series in 1990. In his first season scored two victories and finished eighth in the season championship. In his second season he captured the championship in dominating fashion by racking up 14 wins in 16 starts.
The '03 season was a breakout season for Lewis. He captured his first Bud Pole Award at Gateway International Raceway in May, and posted two top-five, 10 top-10 and 23 top-20 finishes, leading him to 12th place in the '03 NBS standings.
Despite the lack of major sponsorship funding in '04, Lewis Motorsports fielded a competitive team on a weekly basis as evidenced by a string of top-15 performances to close out the season including a second-place finish at Darlington Raceway in the fall. At year's end, Lewis finished a career-best eighth place in the overall point standings, which caught the eye of team owners Sam and Ed Rensi. Faced with a difficult decision, Lewis Motorsports closed its doors at the end of '04, and Ashton and his brother Charlie joined Team Rensi for the start of '05 season.
