Ashleigh Banfield is an MSNBC anchor and correspondent. She is the anchor of MSNBC's "A Region in Conflict" which airs Monday through Thursday from 9-10 p.m. ET on MSNBC.
Ashleigh Banfield covered the events of September 11 from Ground Zero in New York City for eight days before departing for Islamabad, Pakistan. Preceding the events of September 11, 2001, Banfield co-anchored "Newsfront" weeknights from 5-6 p.m. with Lester Holt. Banfield covered the 2000 Election for MSNBC by going on the road with the Bush/Cheney campaign. She also covered the 2000 Summer Olympic games for MSNBC from Sydney, Australia.
Prior to joining MSNBC, Banfield served as the 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. news anchor for KDFW FOX 4 in Dallas. While there, she received an Emmy for "Best News Anchor" for her coverage on "Cadet Killers" and a Texas Associated Press Award in the "Best Series" category on the controversial "To Serve and Survive." Prior to her tenure in Dallas, Banfield served in a variety of capacities at Canada's CICT-TV, including from 1992-1993 as a producer and later from 1993-1995 as their evening news anchor.
While at CICT-TV, Banfield also freelanced as an associate producer for ABC's "World News Tonight," where she covered the 1991 Bush/Gorbachev Summit in Russia and the 1992 Clinton/Yeltsin Summit in Vancouver.
Banfield received a bachelor's degree in Political Studies and French from Queens University in Ontario. She currently resides in New York City.
