In 1961 she made her film debut in Pocketful of Miracles, then starred in State Fair in 1962. Her starring role in Bye Bye Birdie, made her a star.
In March 1966, Ann-Margret went on a USO tour to entertain U.S. servicemen in parts of Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia.
Throughout the 1970s, Ann-Margret balanced live performances with critically acclaimed dramatic film performances that played against her glamorous image, including Tommy in 1975.
In 1994, she published an autobiography titled Ann Margret: My Story.
