Alexis Arguello is a former world champion boxer.  He was nicknamed "The Explosive Thin Man."  His career as a boxer started off very slow but then took off.  He put together a number of wins to send him to the world Featherweight championship.  He later lost that fight, but he would not be stopped. 

Before he knew it, Alexis found himself fighting once again for the world Featherweight championship.  This time Alexis defeated Ruben Olivares and Arguello was the new champion. 

After defending his Featherweight title a few times, Arguello decided to move up in weight to battle Alfredo Escalera in what has been known as "The Bloody Battle of Bayamon."  Arguello went on to win this match as well and earn another championship under his belt. 

Once again, Arguello decided to move up in weight again to earn the Lightweight Champion.  He went on to defeat Jim Watt and Alexis now held three championship belts under three different weight categories.  He then went on to try and make history by holding 4 world championships in 4 different weight categories.  He faced Aaron Pryor in what became known as "The Battle of Champions."  Arguello went on to lose the fight but he still had his 3 world Championships.

Arguello decided to retire in 1983.  After a few attempted comebacks at fighting, he decided to retire again in the late 1980's.  Arguello is currently a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
