She is a graduate of Concordia University and has a degree in Business Administration and Communication in addition to professional designations in the Health insurance industry. Ms. Merritt believes in giving back to the community and while living in the USA the Mayors of Rockford, IL and St. Louis, MO appointed her to serve on various boards. She reflects that she immensely enjoyed ‘lobbying in DC on behalf of the American Library Association'.
She is an active member of the Bermuda Community acting as past Vice Chairman-PRIDE Bermuda, Secretary-General Bermuda Progressive Labour Party, past Chairman of the Air Advisory Committee, member of the Immigration Board and a Director and Officer of Cap-a-laige Trust Charities House.
