International explorer, photographer, public speaker, author, and television host Josh Bernstein has traveled over 500,000 miles by train, plane, bus, bike and camel to over 40 countries, exploring the biggest mysteries of our planet for the benefit of armchair adventurers around the world.

He has traced the Ark of the Covenant from the caverns of Jerusalem to the mountains of Ethiopia, searched for the Holy Grail in the bowels of Nazi Germany, and communed with tribal chiefs in the darkest jungles of the Amazon Rainforest. He has ventured deep underground to explore the origins of life on Earth with NASA scientists and has hunted with alleged cannibals by moonlight in the forests of Papua New Guinea -- all in a quest to make television educational, adventurous, and entertaining.

His latest television series, Into the Unknown with Josh Bernstein, is now being broadcast in over 170 countries around the world on the Discovery Channel. Prior to working for Discovery, Bernstein hosted the adventure-archaeology series Digging for the Truth for three hit seasons on the History Channel.

In addition to his role as a television host, Bernstein is also a wilderness survival expert and the owner of BOSS -- the Boulder Outdoor Survival School -- the oldest and largest survival school in the world. Bernstein first attended BOSS in 1988 and, over the past 20 years, advanced from student to apprentice to instructor to marketing director and in 1997, became president and CEO of the company. He and his staff encourage course participants to challenge themselves on survival courses up to one month in length while learning primitive skills like how to make fire without matches, build shelter from local materials, and turn river rocks into cutting edges.

Under Bernstein's direction, BOSS has consulted on a number of high-profile projects, including work for the National Geographic Channel, The History Channel, NBC, and 20th Century Fox's feature film Cast Away (for which BOSS did all the survival consulting). In 2004, Bernstein ventured from the world of survival to the world of television, finding further success as the popular host of two successful series.

Bringing energy and passion to his work, Bernstein combines intellect, wit, and curiosity about the wonders of our planet in his pursuit of knowledge and discovery. An appealing modern-day explorer, he effortlessly bridges the unique from all corners of the world with a flair for communication, appearing as a regular guest on television shows including The Today Show, Good Morning America, and The Daily Show. He has been featured in numerous magazines including the premiere issue of Men’s Vogue, the cover of the Style section of The New York Times, and People magazine's “2007 Sexiest Man Alive” issue.

Bernstein is a fellow of the Explorers Club and the Royal Geographical Society, a patron of the American Museum of Natural History, and a board member of the Global Heritage Fund and Discovery's Planet Green channel. When not traveling, he splits his time between an apartment in New York City and a yurt in Southern Utah. An avid photographer, Bernstein has compiled thousands of his own photographs and countless fascinating stories throughout his adventures around the world.

Born and raised in New York City, he holds degrees in Anthropology and Psychology from Cornell University.
