Physically petite but huge in determination and fearlessness, as a preschooler Jamie not only welcomed challenges to test her limits she seemed to seek them out.
All athletic endeavors came easily to Jamie as a child – long distance running, soccer, softball and even hockey. She started skating when she was only 5 years old.
After 6 years of very successful results in singles skating Jamie was asked to try out for pairs skating. Winning medals in Novice, Junior and Senior Pairs and going to Olympics in 1994, she and her partner were the team to watch. She tried her hand at singles skating, but returned to pair skating after receiving a call from David Pelletier.
From a win at Skate America in the fall of 1998 to vying for gold at the Worlds in Nice France in 2000, this was a “magic pair” that the skating world had been waiting for.
Since the Olympics, she has toured North America with "Stars on Ice," a figure skating show, served as a commentator on Olympic Ice, which aired on USA Network during the 2006 Winter Olympics, and was inducted into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame and Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame.
In the first year of the CBC's "Battle of the Blades," Salé won the competition with hockey player Craig Simpson, (currently lead analyst for Hockey Night in Canada). On the second season of Battle of the Blades, Salé was paired with Theoren Fleury.
