Chi Chi Rodriguez is one of the most likeable players the PGA Tour has seen in history. Rodríguez started his life in golf when he decided to become a caddie at the age of seven in Puerto Rico. He taught himself how to play golf by using a tree branch as a golf club and a baseball as a golf ball.
By the time he was nine years old, he was becoming a child prodigy and in 1947 at the age of twelve, he scored his first 67. Rodríguez turned professional in 1960 and in an eleven year span won eight titles on the PGA Tour. He is best known for his "toreador dance," a move he would perform after every eagle or birdie. He would make believe that the birdie was a "bull" and that his putter was a "sword" and he would terminate the "bull".
In 1986, he won the Hispanic Recognition Award and in 1988, he was named Replica's Hispanic Man of the Year. He also represented Puerto Rico on twelve World Cup teams.
Rodríguez became eligible to play on the PGA Senior Tour in 1985 where he won twenty two tournaments. Some of his awards as a golfer include the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor given by the United States Golf Association in recognition of distinguished sportsmanship in golf and in 1992, he was inducted into the PGA's World Golf Hall of Fame.
