Gwynn is an eight-time National League batting champion who led the league in 1984, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997. He is also a 15-time All-Star, and was voted as a starter in 11 of the games.
Gwynn retired in 2001 with a total of 3,141 hits and a lifetime batting average of .338. Since then, Gwynn has worked as a color commentator for ESPN and is currently the head baseball coach at San Diego State University.
