After the 1994 Winter Olympics, at age 16, Okasaba Baiul turned professional.
In international events she won at the World championship and at the Olympics. She later finished second in the Europeans in 1993 and 1994.
Baiul had arthroscopic knee surgery in the summer of 1994 and after her surgery she competed in six competitions but her jumping ability was hindered greatly.
She eventually entered a rehab program for alcoholism. Baiul has continued to skate professionally from time to time, she was apart of "Broadway on Ice".
Baiul currently resides in New Jersey. She has her own line of clothing and jewelry. In November 2005, she appeared on the Bravo program Celebrity Poker.
Bauil is an active supporter of the Tikva Children's Home Charity. She offers help for the Jewish Children of Odessa, Ukraine. She also contributes and is a member of the International Museum of Women, which is a world-class cultural and educational institution whose mission is to add value to the lives of women around the world.
