At the 1968 Olympic games, Mark Spitz won two team golds, plus, an individual silver and bronze. That was before he attended college at Indiana.
At the 1972 Munich games, Spitz, a Jewish speaker won 4 golds.
Tragedy then struck the 1972 games as Palestinian terrorists killed two Israelis and taking nine others hostage. Spitz, who is Jewish, left Germany before the closing ceremonies. The nine hostages were later killed.
His performance coupled with his good looks made Spitz an instant celebrity. A host of endorsements and a short-lived television career followed, but Spitz eventually settled in to a profitable real estate career.
