Lee Elder is a golfing pioneer who is best remembered as the first African-American to play in the Masters in 1975.
Elder, the African-American community's forerunner to Tiger Woods, taught himself to play golf the only way he could - by sneaking onto courses at night.
When Elder was a teen, he caddied in order to earn money. Elder turned pro in 1959. In his groundbreaking career, Elder won four PGA Tour Events and posted eight victories on the Senior PGA Tour.
