Donna Shirley is a former United States astronaut.
After graduating college, Shirley worked as a writer in St. Louis before winning a job with NASA. She worked on the very first unmanned mission to Mars in 1966 and continued with Mars research, a devotion that came to fruition on July 4, 1997. The entire world watched as the Mars Pathfinder and the Sojourner Rover successfully landed on Mars.
Donna Shirley has written an autobiography, Managing Martians: The Extraordinary Story of a Woman's Lifelong Quest to Get to Mars -- and of the Team Behind the Space Robot That Has Captured the Imagination of the World.
After leaving NASA in 1998, she wrote an on-line book called Managing Creativity: A Practical Guide to Inventing, Developing and Producing Innovative Products In the book Donna Shirley shares her strategies for using creativity of groups to develop ideas and efficiently and effectively turn them into real products.
