Clay Aiken auditioned for the American Idol talent contest to please a friend, but ended up winning the hearts of the judges and millions of fans throughout the world with his interpretation of songs like "Bridge Over Troubled Waters".
Within weeks of the shows finale, Aiken landed a deal with RCA and that same month, his debut single, "This Is the Night," went number one on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, selling over 392,000 copies during its first week.
In 2003, Clay released his studio full-length titled "The Measure of a Man". This album sold 613,000 copies and was number one on Billboard's Top 200 during its first week of being released. In November 2004, Aiken's first holiday effort "Merry Christmas With Love" followed. The album had the biggest debut week sales figures for a Christmas album in SoundScan history with its debut at #1 on Billboard's Top Holiday Albums Chart.
This artist has been singing since an early age, never lacking the confidence or ability to impress a crowd. By the age of five, he was singing at local high school dances. By the time he was a teenager, Clay became a member of the Raleigh Boys Choir.
He has been part of countless roles in various musicals such as The Music Man and Oklahoma! . Aiken also took part in stage plays, and playhouse shows during his early career.
