Bud Collins's Biography

After his U.S. Army service, Bud Collins decided to attend Boston University graduate school. He later, joined the Boston Herald as a sportswriter. In 1963, he moved to the "Boston Globe" and also began to cover tennis for the Boston PBS outlet, WGBH.

From 1968-72, Collins worked for CBS covering the U.S. Open Tennis Championships. In 1972, he joined NBC as a tennis broadcaster, a position he holds currently.

Collins has written three books: "The Education of a Tennis Player" (with Rod Laver, 1971), "Evonne! On the Move" (with Evonne Goolagong, 1974) a memoir, "My Life With the Pros" (1989) and three editions of the tennis encyclopedia.

Collins was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1994.

Buds' trademark is donning "loud" pants, which he has custom-made from unique fabrics he collects while traveling for work.

Collins also starred in the Psych episode Spellingg Bee in 2006.
