A.J. Foyt's victories at the Brickyard came in 1961, 196, 1967, and 1977.
A versatile driver, Foyt is the all-time Indy car victories leader with 67 wins and he also won national driving championship in 1960, 1963, 1963, 1964, 1967, 1975 and 1979. He also posted 41 victories in U. S. Auto Club stock cars, seven in NASCAR stock race cars, 29 sprint cars wins, 21 in midget cars, seven in sports cars and two in championship dirt cars.
Foyt is one of only three drivers to win races on three different types of courses in a single season: on oval speedways, road courses, and dirt tracks, which he did in 1968. Foyt is also the only driver to win the Indy 500, the NASCAR Daytona 500, and the 24 Hours of LeMans. He won at Daytona in 1972 and at LeMans in 1968, 1983, and 1985.
He was the USAC dirt car champion in 1975, the USAC stock car champion in 1968, 1978, and 1979.
The extremely personable Foyt has parlayed his winnings into a fortune. Among his many business ventures, A.J. Foyt owns the largest auto dealership in Texas and also has extensive interests in ventures such as oil wells, hotel chains and the largest funeral service business in the United States.
