One of the top food writers in the world keynoted the inaugural Organic Produce Summit earlier this month.  Mark Bittman was the top speaker at the very successful first event.

It was held July 13-14 in Monterrey, California.  Bittman talked about the "real food" advantages of organic food and mentioned how fruit and vegetables should be the basis of a diet.

The event featured a sold-out trade show and standing-room-only seminars.  There were over 800 attendees and 75 different companies at the exhibition.

Bittman is the Chief Innovation Officer at The Purple Carrot.  The company provides people the resources to cook plant-based meals at home.

Prior to joining The Purple Carrot, Bittman was a food columnist for The New York Times.  He has written over a dozen books, including the number one New York Times bestseller, "VB6: Eat Vegan Before 6:00".

Bittman makes regular appearances on The Today Show.  He has hosted a variety of programs as well, including the Emmy Award-winning documentary, "Years of Living Dangerously".
